It hasn’t been the best year, but I believe that lots of good has come out of it. 2020 combined with falling pregnant made me really think about how I shop and what I spend my money on. Never has there been a more important time to buy less but the best of what you can afford so you have a wardrobe that will last you for years to come. So when I started not being able to do up my clothes due to my expanding waistline it made me realise 2 things, a lot of my wardrobe was denim and required a waist which I no longer had and as I wear the same things day in day out, most of which was denim I didn’t have that many options left to wear. So for the first time ever and this may sound silly but I actually practiced what I preach, I made a moodboard of things that I would like to wear and I ordered lots of bits and had a try on and sent most of it back and kept a few things which I knew I would always wear, waistline or no waistline ! After all buying clothes that fit you for 1 year of your life seems crazy, esp as there are so many shapes and style hacks around to make clothes work for your body no matter how much it changes around the middle.
So whether you are keeping your bump warm or looking into invest in a few key wardrobe staples, I’ve made an edit from one of my favourite websites NET-A-PORTER who stock the very best brands and is one of my regular go to places to mostly window shop but occasionally I do buy and find that these are the pieces that end up living in my wardrobe the longest. Buying good quality clothes is more expensive than shopping on the high street but I like to think about cost per wear and if you love something and wear it all the time not only do you feel REALLY good when you wear it but it works out far more cost effective than buying something on the high street that you only wear twice ! If one thing could come out of 2020 I hope that we all learn to consume in a healthier way and fast fashion becomes a thing of the past.
