OF WARDROBE STAPLES

THAT WORK WITH & WITHOUT A BUMP

It hasn’t been the best year, but I believe that lots of good has come out of it. 2020 combined with falling pregnant made me really think about how I shop and what I spend my money on. Never has there been a more important time to buy less but the best of what you can afford so you have a wardrobe that will last you for years to come. So when I started not being able to do up my clothes due to my expanding waistline it made me realise 2 things, a lot of my wardrobe was denim and required a waist which I no longer had and as I wear the same things day in day out, most of which was denim I didn’t have that many options left to wear. So for the first time ever and this may sound silly but I actually practiced what I preach, I made a moodboard of things that I would like to wear and I ordered lots of bits and had a try on and sent most of it back and kept a few things which I knew I would always wear, waistline or no waistline ! After all buying clothes that fit you for 1 year of your life seems crazy, esp as there are so many shapes and style hacks around to make clothes work for your body no matter how much it changes around the middle.

So whether you are keeping your bump warm or looking into invest in a few key wardrobe staples, I’ve made an edit from one of my favourite websites NET-A-PORTER who stock the very best brands and is one of my regular go to places to mostly window shop but occasionally I do buy and find that these are the pieces that end up living in my wardrobe the longest. Buying good quality clothes is more expensive than shopping on the high street but I like to think about cost per wear and if you love something and wear it all the time not only do you feel REALLY good when you wear it but it works out far more cost effective than buying something on the high street that you only wear twice ! If one thing could come out of 2020 I hope that we all learn to consume in a healthier way and fast fashion becomes a thing of the past.

My Edit

I love this cardigan by Acne, not only is it the most perfect chocolate brownie brown ! It’s super soft, not scratchy at all (sometimes I find this with mohair) and the cut is brilliant, over-sized, a bum coverer that looks great with denim, bias cut silk pieces, belted with high waisted trousers or just on it’s own maybe with some denim cut offs underneath. I’m so fussy when it comes to bags but have failed for this one by Neous , the strap is adjustable, you just change where you tie the knot, but it doesn’t slip like I thought it might, it’s a decent size as well and those buttery soft folds of leather add a nice contrast / texture to any outfit whether it be a white t-shirt and jeans or a chunky jumper and urrrr jeans, I MISS MY JEANS.

I’m a big fan of Khaite and this dress really holds you (pregnant or not) it’s definitely not your average jumper dress.

This is a very special cardigan again by Khaite, the colour, the cut, the weight (I’ve never worn such a luxurious cardigan EVER) and those sleeves, so soft and the perfect fall of the v and pocket placement mean it works as a top on it’s own with denim (if you are doing it up always leave the bottom button undone) would be really beautiful worn open over a silk dress or done up and pulled off one shoulder.

This is a GREAT Winter coat by Acne, the shade of grey is spot on and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t really gravitate towards grey. It’s 100% super soft cashmere and because of the cut can look smart or super relaxed, think weekends, vintage denim, chunky jumper and boots, this is the perfect cashmere coat that will be in your wardrobe for years to come.

There aren’t many places that continue to, season after season make excellent blazers, Blaze Milano is one of them and this is a true classic, beautifully tailored in the perfect biscuit tone, I love the pocket detail and the tortoise shell buttons as well as the stitching detail across the shoulders. Great for wearing over dresses with boots if you like a bit of a 70s vibe, over a white over-sized mans shirt. It was made for easy wear with denim, in Autumn and Spring it’s the perfect alternative to a coat and with the colour being so warm will always give your skin that injection of extra life, LOVE THAT.

I love how this Stand Studio beauty feels like your go to Winter coat version of the flying jacket, a real statement piece that does all the talking, it’s great to have a coat like this on call if you favour simpler day to day pieces, as anything topped with something like this looks finished. Would lend itself equally well to walking the dog.
