Home Highlights
(easier than you think)
If you don’t mind the messy un-even beach blonde look then why not try a home highlighting kit. I’ve been doing my own colour for years and can confirm that for the ‘painting it on exactly where you want it’ technique the best colour by far is Garnier’s ‘Garnier Nutrisse Creme Highlights’.
Here are my tips for getting the best finish.
1, Tie up the centre section of hair to avoid working straight into the parting for your first go (mistakes are always easier to see when you hair is parted so start with getting the colour an inch away from your parting)
2, Apply colour when you hair is styles how you’d usually wear it
3, If you already have colour on your hair avoid adding colour to the lighter pieces until you’ve covered the darker bits first as the colour will take quicker on lighter hair
4, I leave this colour on for 5-7 minutes and it lifts my naturally brown hair so its always best to do a strand test and make notes on how long you should leave the colour on for
5, It’s always nice to have different shades for the most natural look so leave the first go on for 5 minutes and then the 2nd go on for 7 picking up some of the hairs from the first go to get some really light pieces in the mix
6, Add colour where your hair would naturally catch the sun (front section and the ends of the hair)
7, Once you’ve added the colour all over I always scrunch the left over colour onto all the ends to give it a really natural feel.
The best bit about colouring my hair with this kit at home is how much healthier it is !! This is due to you knowing exactly how long you need to leave the product on for your hair to lift because YOU have done the strand test !!
This means minimum damage in the long run
If you are colouring your own hair I would always recommend using a really nourishing shampoo like Nexxus ‘Therape’ shampoo. This post is not an AD I just wanted to share some tips so you too can keep your blonde bits even if you can’t get to a salon as we all know how happy new hair can make you feel
I’ve always and ONLY used Garnier’s high-lighting kit
